Patella Stabilisation Surgery

Patella (knee cap) dislocation can be due to bony, muscular or ligament problems. It can occur as part of a traumatic injury, and can become a recurrent problem. I aim to assess the knee accurately with clinical examination and various imaging modalities. This detailed work-up will allow a diagnosis of the underlying problem and formulation of a logical treatement  plan.

This usually starts with physiotherapy, and may include surgery if appropriate. The latter may involve various combinations of ligament reconstruction, muscle advancement and bony transposition or remodelling.

The final treatment is tailor-made to suit the patient's individual problem, rather than using a  'one size fits all' blanket approach for all patients.
